Wednesday’s Wowzers

Hey friends!

It's time for our Wednesday check-in!  I hope you had a fabulous Thanksgiving weekend!  We were surrounded by lots of love, family, and fabulous food!  We celebrated with my in-laws, and each of the siblings and their significant others prepared a dish.  (Our motto was Divide and Conquer!)  Mr. Oopsey Daisy and I prepared the pies--they were delicious!  All week long, Little Man played with cousins and his new best friend:  Papa and Nana's boxer dog, Snickers.

I am still getting my bearings this week.  The last week has been a complete rollercoaster.  We went to Disneyland in California on Tuesday.  Three days and 3 airports later, I was at my Grandmother's funeral in Utah.  I am a bit behind when it comes to Christmas decorating, but we'll get there.

Here are a few great ideas I found to get my inspiration going...!  Everything about this marshmallow wonderland vignette is incredible.  I love those trees.  I love the colors.  I even love the stars.  But that subway art sign is incredible!!!  You can see all of the details at Today's Fabulous Finds.

This adorable Christmas frame wreath has Lil' Luna written all over it, don't you think?  I love those accordion-folded Christmas trees!  Darling!

I'm kind of an advent junkie.  I just can't get enough great ideas!  If you're like me, you definitely need to check out this Christmas present advent at Creation Corner.  I love that adorable baker's twine!

Christmas Tree Wall Art

This post was originally published on Positively Splendid's "A Swell Noel" series.  Check out all of the fabulous ideas over at Amy's place!  You will definitely be inspired!

Do you remember my spring flower wall art?

Spring seems like forever away, but I am so excited for all of the wintry Christmas fun just around the corner!

A few weeks ago, I was gazing at these happy little flowers and decided that I needed to do a Christmas spin-off of this original project.

Tis the season!!

Here is my Christmas tree wall art!

It's a festive touch to the very same frame!

I had so much fun putting this project together.  Come along to see how to make your very own...

I began by taking these little lovelies out of their frame.  I love these colorful flowers!  They add so much pizzazz to my craft room.

Manicotti Recipe with Carapelli Olive Oil

This post brought to you by Carapelli. All opinions are 100% mine.

I was thrilled when Carapelli sent me a bottle of olive oil to review!  Besides conducting my very own taste test, I also used the olive oil to mix up a batch of my favorite manicotti!

When I think of olive oil, I think of Italy!  Carapelli has been making olive oil from the finest Mediterranean olives for more than 100 years. In fact, Carapelli was the very first company to promote extra virgin olive oil in Italy.  Their distinctive brand of olive oil includes 3 varieties:  Organic, Premium 100% Italian, and Il Numerato.

I learned a lot about olive oil testing when they sent me a bottle of their Premium 100% Italian olive oil.  For example, I found out that olive oil sampling is very similar to a wine tasting!

This is how you can conduct an olive oil sampling plus select the variety that you like best:

First, you need a rounded blue glass that fits in the palm of your hand.  The blue color masks the olive oil's color so you can judge it purely by taste.  Your hand warms the glass in your palm, which will enhance flavor and smell.  Who knew, right?!

Christmas Book Advent

Alright folks.  It's the day after Thanksgiving, so I am in "go" mode for Christmas!

Do you have that silly rule about not listening to Christmas music until after Thanksgiving?  I do!  Today I can listen to Christmas music guilt-free!

How do you look forward to Christmas?  We have several Christmas advent calendars:

* We have the Christmas tree countdown that I shared last year.

* We also have the classic felt Christmas tree calendar.  We will be pulling a felt object out of the calendar each day and pinning it on the tree!

* Of course we are continuing the Santa Beard tradition by adding cotton balls to Santa's beard every day until Christmas.

* Last week, I also shared this Super Saturday story book binder we made at my ward's Super Saturday.  We will use this as our family scripture study, sharing a scripture, song, and special Christmas story every day until Christmas.  (By the way, I have received tons of e-mails requesting that I share this with you.  I love sharing ideas with you, but I don't feel right about sharing someone else's work.  I simply made the binder cover in my class--the content of the binder was created by someone else.  Feel free to take this idea and make it your own!)

* Just like last year, Little Man is SO excited for our Christmas Book Advent.  I am sure many of you do this very same thing!

Every day during the month of December, Little Man will find a book wrapped up underneath the Christmas tree.  I don't know about you, but I LOVE Christmas books.  I can't wait to share some of my favorites with Little Man.  So several days ago, we wrapped up all of our books so they're all ready to go!   I combined several of my favorite books from our own storybook library along with a few books we'll be checking out from the local library.

Here are some of the books that we'll be reading this year:

Mickey's Christmas Carol

Merry Christmas, Curious George

The First Night

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

If You Take a Mouse to the Movies

Santa's Toy Shop

Gingerbread Man

Here Comes Santa Claus

Mortimer's Christmas Manger

Little Robin's Christmas

Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree

The Baker's Dozen

Franklin's Christmas Gift

Jingle Bells

Frosty the Snow Man

Froggy's Best Christmas

Polar Express

A Piggie Christmas

There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bell

What Santa Can't Do

Snowmen At Christmas

The Biggest, Most Beautiful Christmas Tree

The Mouse Before Christmas

Merry Christmas, Mom and Dad (Little Critter series)

Twas the Night Before Christmas

Room For a Little One

The Little Drummer Boy

You might notice that there are more than 25 books on my list because I am having a difficult time narrowing down the final book list!

I wrapped up our books in plain brown paper and used scrapbook paper scraps and my scalloped paper punch to dress them up a bit.  We plan to work on number recognition with the number/date tags on the books.

You may remember last year's book advent.

Every day in December, I shared ideas for crafts and activities based on our Christmas book for that day.

We will be repeating many of those same activities this year!

What books will you be reading this Christmas?  Do you have some good recommendations?

Wednesday’s Wowzers: Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

After a long day at Disneyland today, we are all tired and sore, but 100% happy.  We have decided that it takes loads of work to have loads of fun!  Of course as I see Little Man sleeping peacefully, snuggled up with his favorite Mickey Mouse stuffed animal, I know it was all worth it.  Memories were made today.

This has been quite a week.  After celebrating at the happiest place on earth here in California, I will be shifting gears pretty quickly as I fly to Utah to honor my sweet grandmother who passed away on Sunday.  Although she will be missed dearly, I feel such complete happiness and gratitude to think of the legacy she left us--her 8 children, 43 grandchildren, 110 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.  Sweet Grandma was the best person I've ever known.  So in the midst of heartache, I feel completely grateful for the life she lived.

This time of year really does make me want to snuggle my loved ones a little bit closer.

Now on to some creative inspiration!!  Lately I feel like I am constantly drooling.  There is just not enough time before Christmas to make all of these projects!!

Here are some of my favorite ideas this week:

I am swooning over this pointsetta pillow from Sweet C's Designs.  I love a great Pottery Barn knockoff, and Courtney created something truly beautiful here!

I have always loved this scripture, and I can't wait to print my very own from Jones Design Company!  What a lovely way to decorate for Christmas this year!

Delia Creates constantly amazes me.  I love that she created her own family game using a bi-fold foam board!  What a great Christmas gift for the family!

This DIY paper tree (an Anthro knockoff) is an incredibly clever idea!   Go check out The Wonder Forest for the full tut!

To begin with, this date night basket is beyond darling!  I mean the embroidered initials??  SO CUTE!  I'm lovin' that burlap too.  But I love what's inside even more!  Miss Lovie created all sorts of date ideas to include in this basket.  Wouldn't this make a great Christmas gift for your husband?!

One word:  YUMMY!!  These cookies would be fun and festive for any kind of holiday get-together!  My mouth is watering thanks to Something Swanky!

More pillows?!  Yes, more pillows!  I'm just blown away by The 3t6h Avenue.  These letter to Santa pillows are absolutely darling!!

What has inspired you lately?

Festive Chevron Holiday Plate

Right now at this very moment, our family is enjoying Disneyland!!

In the mean time, I thought I would share the full tutorial for my chevron spray painted holiday plate!

I think Santa would be proud!

I added a little spray paint, a little chevron, and a little ho-ho-ho!

I started with an extra plate I had at home.  Nothing too fancy.

Super Saturday Crafts

Happy Thanksgiving Week!!

I am looking forward to some turkey and fun with family!

Today we are on an airplane bound for California!  We will be spending Thanksgiving with my in-laws there.  With 2 new sisters-in-law joining the family this year, I am so excited to spend time with our growing family!  Plus... tomorrow, we will be hanging out with Mickey Mouse at Disneyland!  Little Man can hardly wait.  I hope you're spending this week with the ones you love!

A couple of weekends ago, our ward at Church had a Super Saturday.  I taught one craft class and signed up for 3 more!  One of the classes was a fantastic (and yummy!) class teaching about Cooking Around the World.  Besides learning a lot, I also had the chance to feast on authentic Italian food and Japanese food.  YUM!!

Here are the crafts we completed:

I taught the class on making Lil' Luna's temple blocks.  I originally found Kristyn's blog through this project... it's one of my favorites!

Sweet Kristyn antiqued one of my wedding photos of the Denver Temple for this project.  Before coming, the ladies had the chance to select the temple picture they wished to use.  I made mine a bit larger (an 8x10), and I plan on giving this to Little Man for Christmas.

Can you tell how much we love Lil' Luna?!  We also made our own reversible baby boy neck ties.

I used this cute argyle print with a brown corduroy back.  We plan on using these as Christmas gifts for cousins {hope they aren't reading this!}  They might just make a perfect family picture!  (I made the three ties in different sizes for their different ages.)

As Christmas approaches, I am really excited about this project!

We created a Christmas story advent book.

We created the cute cover of our very own Christmas story book binder. Inside the binder, there is a story and scripture for every day in December until Christmas.  Isn't this a fun idea?!  I think we will read these with our daily scripture study.  I love all of the different Christmas advent ideas.  There is so much to look forward to all month long!

What are your favorite Super Saturday projects?

Sunday’s Snippets: A Hot Date!

For me, Sundays are all about family!  So each Sunday, I take a break from my usual creative routine to share a few glimpses of our everyday lives.  This is nothing glamorous about our normal days, but I treasure them!!

This week (on Thanksgiving, actually!), Mr. Oopsey Daisy and I are celebrating 4 years of the beginning of our eternity together.

Four years?!

It seems like just yesterday!

I felt like a very lucky lady then.  But I feel even luckier now.

As you know, Mr. Oopsey Daisy travels a lot and works very hard for our family.  It's definitely not easy on him or us.  But one thing is for sure:  I appreciate the times we are together even more.

To celebrate our big day, my sweet hubby planned an incredible date!  It was perfect in every way.

After traveling, he popped into town and surprised me with a beautiful bouquet of roses just in time for our date!  I don't think I will ever get tired of roses... these lovelies just make me smile!

Holiday Beadboard Frame

There are only 37 days until Christmas!

I can hardly wait.  Who wants to join me for some hot cocoa??

This holiday season, "JOY" has become my mantra.  (Remember my JOY-ful Christmas display??)

Rather than becoming overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of the holidays, I want to focus on the true joy of the Christmas season.  What better reminder of true joy than a picture of the people I love most?!  I thought it would be fun to display our latest Christmas card or family photo on this faux frame.

I had just a little help from Martha Stewart's brand new paint line...

I was thrilled to try out some of these amazing goodies!  I was very impressed with Martha Stewart's new paint line.  I tried out several craft paints, glitter paint (best invention ever!), some gorgeous stencils, brushes, sponges, etc.

I love that Martha's new craft paints are multi-surface.  They are intended for everything from fabric to glass!

Come along with me to see how I created this festive faux frame...
