Scrabble Tile Ornament

This post was originally included in Sweet C's Designs' {Give Great Gifts} series.  Courtney has been sharing fantastic gifts all month long... be sure to check them out!  While you're at it, check out her vintage ski Christmas card display!  Love it!

Hello my friends!

This might just be the last time I post until Christmas.  Mr. Oopsey Daisy has finally arrived back in town after 2 weeks of busy travels, and we are in full-time Christmas mode.  Today's Scrabble tile ornament/gift embellishment is a quick-and-easy gift you can pull off in just a few minutes.  For the procrastinators (like myself!)...

I don't know about you, but time is short for me this holiday season.  Today I am sharing a quick-and-easy tutorial for creating a Scrabble Tile ornament.  You could give this as a gift, add it to a gift wrapping, or use it as a favor!  The best part is it's easy!

You know you're a crazy crafter when...

You take a brand new (but slightly dusty) Scrabble game and raid it for crafting supplies!

I searched my local thrift stores for a used Scrabble game, but came up empty!  Instead, I ransacked our very own game of Scrabble!  I justified this because we have never played Scrabble in our house.ever. It was begging to be used!

I started out by picking out the letters I wanted to use...

I love me a "Holly Jolly" Christmas!

I tried out a few types of glue, but I finally settled on the good stuff:  Gorilla Glue.  I have found that the secret to my success with Gorilla Glue is using the tiniest amount possible!  The hardest part of this project was waiting for the glue to set up.  I waited about an hour.

To make this an ornament, I hot glued a ribbon loop to the back.  Easy peasy!

Wednesday’s Wowzers: Even MORE gift wrap ideas!

Happy Wednesday-Before-Christmas!

Whew, what a week right?  Visit with Santa.  Daily advent activities.  Christmas movies to watch and treats to bake. Tricks from "Tootles", our little Elf on the Shelf.  And wrapping gifts.  That's where today's Wowzers inspiration comes in.

Last week's gift wrap inspiration came at a perfect time for me.  I am wrapping our gifts a little at a time all week long. And guess what?  Literally in between wrapping my gifts, I am searching for more beautiful ideas on Pinterest.  I'm collecting all sorts of gorgeous gift wrapping ideas on my Gift Wrap Pinterest Board!  So I decided to share a few more ideas here on our Wowzers today!

Brown paper packages tied up with string really are one of my favorite things!  But this whole package is just perfect.  I love that touch of muslin, the vintage print, the twine, and the whimsical flower.  Well done, The Thrifty Crafter!

My sweet friend Kara (Creations By Kara) wrapped up her brown paper package with rolled paper roses.  These would be lovely any time of year!

Heather at Whipperberry shared 2 fantastic gift wrap ideas, and I can't decide which one I love the most!  That wax paper bow is just amazing, but I can't get over how sweet the pompoms are!  Check out both ideas!

Speaking of pompoms, using coffee filters to create a pompom is incredibly genius!  Creature Comforts Blog is so, so smart!  I have quite a few coffee filters that are about to turn into lovely gift wrap accessories!

Bling Bling Christmas Tree

This tutorial was originally shared at Sumo's Sweet Stuff "Spread Christmas Cheer" series.  Be sure to check out Summer's fab series for more great Christmas ideas... PLUS tell her congratulations on her new baby girl!

Christmas is practically here!

Are you ready??  {I'm NOT!} But I'm excited for this fun week-before-Christmas!

Today, I want to share one of my latest and greatest Christmas projects:

This "Bling Bling" Christmas Tree is sparkly, shiny, and simple, too!

Typically, I don't love gold, but when Christmas comes around, I love to decorate with something sparkly!  This little tree has made a grand entrance with my Christmas decor.

Are you ready to make your own?

Let's go!

Last year sometime, I found a box of gold buttons at JoAnn's.  They were all different shapes and sizes.  They have been sitting in a drawer all year, and I thought this was the perfect opportunity to make good use of them!

For this project, I also used a styrofoam cone, some gold ribbon, and gold bows I found at the dollar store.

Wednesday’s Wowzers: All About Gift Wrap!

 Happy, merry Christmas season

Like most of you, this week I am busy baking, shopping, running errands, cooking, and {almost} gift wrapping. Time is short, but I find myself still running to Pinterest for last-minute inspiration!  So today's edition of Wednesday's Wowzers is dedicated to gift wrap ideas.  So if you're like me and have gift wrap on your mind, you might just find yourself inspired to try something new!

Here are some fresh new gift wrap ideas:

I LOVE everything about this packaging:  The Baker's twine, the newspaper, the glitter, and the monogram tags!  I found this little beauty at Allora Handmade.

These pine cones, twine, and pine gift wrap from HGTV are so beautiful and natural.

Which row do you love the best?  I'll take them all!  Love this red, white, and aqua from Camille Styles.

Gingerbread Man Theme Day

I have been missing Mommy School.  A lot.  But let's be honest--Christmastime is a crazy time!  I haven't found a second to spare.  But I have wanted to enjoy some fun Christmas activities with Little Man.  So I compromised.  Instead of attempting daily activities, I decided to do weekly theme days.  It's basically an all-day party!

Last week, we had an entire "Gingerbread Man" day.

You might remember that we had a similar gingerbread party last year.  It's so fun to see how much more I can do with Little Man in just 1 year!  We had so much fun with last year's party that we decided to make this a tradition!

Little Man loves our Christmas book advent SO much!  Every morning he wakes up and runs downstairs to discover the latest Christmas book wrapped up under the tree. On this day, he woke up and found "The Gingerbread Man" story book.  He wanted to read this over and over again all day long.

We ate gingerbread pancakes for breakfast.  YUM!

Stocking Stuffers For Guys

This post was originally part of Kojo Design's Gifts for Guys series.

I la-la-la-LOVE this Gifts for Guys series!

Guys are totally neglected in the crafting world, don't you think?

Don't tell my husband I said so, but I think that every guy secretly wants to be pampered.  I know mine does.  Especially when he's sick.  Or tired.  Or had a long day.

I have a theory that if my husband could go to a spa completely anonymously, he would do it!  Let's face it, he travels for work all week long, so he probably deserves it!  But this gift brings the spa straight to his stocking!

This year, I whipped up a couple of {simple} stocking stuffers to help pamper my man!  I created some homemade lip balm, body scrub, and foot scrub to stuff in his stocking.  He may pretend to be underwhelmed, but I happen to know that he will secretly indulge in these little goodies!

My hubby will literally turn around and drive back home if he is missing his chapstick!

So I knew he would appreciate my homemade lip balm.

This is SO easy!  To make your own lip balm...

1.  Gather your supplies.  You will need beeswax, organic shea butter, safflower oil, and your favorite organic oils.

2.  I grated 1/4 c. beeswax to start.  I combined it with 3 T. organic shea butter and 2 T. safflower oil in a plastic bowl.

3.  Then I started microwaving this until the beeswax melted completely, and the liquid was completely clear.  Then I added 2 tsp. of peppermint essential oil and just a touch of food coloring.  (I wanted this to be peppermint-like!)

4.  As quickly as possible, I poured the liquid into the chapstick containers I found at my organic grocery store.  I refrigerated this to be sure it hardened up, and it turned out beautifully.

Who knew it was this easy to make lip balm?!  I will be making more very soon!

I love Google.  I simply googled "brown sugar body scrub" and selected my favorite recipe!  Again, this was so simple to make with just a few simple ingredients!

I used a recipe for peppermint foot scrub that I found at The Idea Room.  Perfect for Christmas!

Santa Tags & Toppers {Aleene’s Dry Adhesives}

Ho ho ho and Happy Friday!

There are only 16 days left until Christmas, so let the gift wrapping and party throwing begin!

I decided to get in Christmas mode by creating some Santa Claus tags and toppers!

I am not the best paper crafter.  Let's begin there.

But this time, I was armed with some brand new tools to assist me in my paper crafting...

Recently, I was selected to review Aleene's new line of dry adhesives.

I kind of feel like these products were created for me and all of my oopseys!  Their products are mess-free, and lucky for me, you can use them without leaving fingerprints!  (Leaving messy fingerprints seems to be my Oopsey trademark!)  These adhesives don't leave lines and you don't have to wait for them to dry because they're not wet!

Aleene's carries a tape runner, tacky sticker sheets, and tacky dot and line rolls.

First off, I created this Santa stuck in the chimney silhouette in Photoshop.

Using my Cricut and Sure Cuts a Lot software, I cut out the boots on black cardsotck; the legs on red cardstock; the snow and fur on white cardstock.

Then it was time to put Aleene's adhesives to the test!  I decided to make some tags and toppers!

To create a gift tag, you will need:

1 sheet of cardstock (I used white), about 5x7

1 smaller piece of patterned paper, about 4x6

1 To/From tag, about 2x3.5 (If you would like to print your own To/From tags, just click here.)

Santa pieces:  Boots, legs, fur, and snow

Wednesday’s Wowzers

It's the most wonderful time of the year!!

(I've been listening to that Andy Williams Christmas tune all week long!)

It is the most wonderful time of the year, but Little Man has been so sick that we really haven't left the house in the last week.  The frigid temperatures have encouraged us to stay inside even longer.  I tell ya... I've never been so anxious for my Little Man to feel like himself again!  I've decided that dealing with a sick toddler must be similar to dealing with a teenager.  Mr. Oopsey Daisy and I have been learning all kinds of new tricks and distraction methods for administering medicine.

But our decorations are up, and we are definitely enjoying our advents here in our home!  Little Man loves beginning each morning with our book advent.  Our Santa's beard is growing day by day, and we have plenty of other fun traditions keeping us busy here at home!  I love watching the magic of Christmas unfold for Little Man... this is such a fun age!

I adore these printable gift bags from 30 Days!  Aren't they lovely?  And the bakers twine is the perfect touch!

I love seeing projects that emphasize the real meaning of Christmas... you know, putting the Christ back in Christmas!  So I love that Kojo Designs created these 25 names of Jesus and used them as an advent... I would love to include this in our Christmas advent traditions somehow!  Great idea!

I've always loved stars this time of year.  I am in awe of this amazing "Wise Men Still Seek Him" sign from Laura at Corner House.

If I had a little girl, I would be sewing one of these lace Christmas tree shirts.  Right.  Now.  Go check out vixenMade for the tutorial... I adore this!

Gingerbread House {2011}

Don't you love holiday traditions?!

We have oodles of them, and yet every year we seem to create even more!

Last night, we ventured out of the house for one of the very first times.  Little Man has been very sick for over a week now. With the frigid temperatures outside, we just haven't left the house very much for fear it will make his infection worse.  But we bundled up last night to join with Grandma, Pop, aunts, uncles, and cousins to create our very own gingerbread houses!

My parents started this tradition while they were dating, and my sweet Mother has it down to a system!  She has a pattern for each piece of the house, the perfect gingerbread recipe (perfect for gingerbread house constructing, though a little tough for eating!), and an amazing frosting recipe that works as cement.  This year, she even gave us our very own Santa candle to perch on the top of our houses!

Forgive me for the picture overload, but I am really quite proud of how our house turned out this year!

Normally my hubby holds back a little bit for fear my OCD will quickly correct his decorating style. :) So this year, he created a 3-car garage on the side of the house.  He has decided he prefers building to decorating, and that is just fine with me!

We save all of our candy all year long so it's good and stale!  We also water down some of the frosting and use it as a snowy glaze to paint over all of the candy.

If you would like print your own gingerbread house pattern and recipe, just click here to view last year's post!

Have fun!

Wednesday’s Wowzers

Hey friends!

It's time for our Wednesday check-in!  I hope you had a fabulous Thanksgiving weekend!  We were surrounded by lots of love, family, and fabulous food!  We celebrated with my in-laws, and each of the siblings and their significant others prepared a dish.  (Our motto was Divide and Conquer!)  Mr. Oopsey Daisy and I prepared the pies--they were delicious!  All week long, Little Man played with cousins and his new best friend:  Papa and Nana's boxer dog, Snickers.

I am still getting my bearings this week.  The last week has been a complete rollercoaster.  We went to Disneyland in California on Tuesday.  Three days and 3 airports later, I was at my Grandmother's funeral in Utah.  I am a bit behind when it comes to Christmas decorating, but we'll get there.

Here are a few great ideas I found to get my inspiration going...

Oh.my.word!  Everything about this marshmallow wonderland vignette is incredible.  I love those trees.  I love the colors.  I even love the stars.  But that subway art sign is incredible!!!  You can see all of the details at Today's Fabulous Finds.

This adorable Christmas frame wreath has Lil' Luna written all over it, don't you think?  I love those accordion-folded Christmas trees!  Darling!

I'm kind of an advent junkie.  I just can't get enough great ideas!  If you're like me, you definitely need to check out this Christmas present advent at Creation Corner.  I love that adorable baker's twine!
