Snippets of SNAP!

Oh, SNAP!  It's been almost 10 days since I returned from SNAP conference, and I have been dying to share some snippets with you!  SNAP was an incredible experience for me!  I decided to attend SNAP to celebrate the friends and connections I've built in the blogging community over the last 2 1/2 years.  I have created some really dear friendships with blogging friends.  To have all of these girls in the same place was just plain amazing.

So 2 weeks ago, my sweet husband patiently drove me to Utah (Thanksgiving Point, to be exact).  It worked out beautifully so we had several family events in Utah the very same week as SNAP.  I had the chance to see my entire extended family plus my blogging friends--all in one busy week!

Unfortunately, the unthinkable happened.  My camera took a tumble out of the car and my best lens broke just days before leaving town.  So I took far fewer photos than I would have liked.  Yet another reason to return next year for SNAP 2013! :)  But I do have a few snippets to share!

Thanksgiving Point was a stunning location.  And those tulips! I couldn't get enough of those tulips!

My brand new business cards had arrived just in time.  Phew.

Top:  Kelli & {me}; Middle:  Amy, Amy, {me}, & Gwen; Bottom: {me}, Michelle, & Aimee

I could hardly wait to check in and get started!

Everywhere I went, I heard the same comment, "I love your bag!!"

The amazing Kellie from Nest of Posies made this bag just in time for SNAP, and I am still crushing on how cute this is!

{me}, Amanda, Michelle

These gals were my room-mates and pals.  LOVE them!  And we totally rocked the Homes.com photo booth!

The food was delicious!  Is it sad/slightly pathetic that I judge almost all events by the food?!  Thanksgiving Point really knows how to throw a party!  And welcome to my world, Velata fondue (a new product from Scentsy.)  YUM!  Those chocolate-covered strawberries were definitely a highlight for me.

One of my favorite parts about SNAP was the make-and-take crafts.  I'm a hands-on type of girl!  After doing some sitting, I needed to CREATE!  I made this cute glasses pouch.  Yeah. I love it.

It was definitely a meeting of creative minds.  The classes were jampacked full of talented speakers (many of my blogging idols!), and everywhere I turned--I found someone else I was dying to meet!  I only wish I had more time with every one of these people!

These Arizona girls, Kristyn and Kelli, are some of the sweetest!

Mother’s Day Card {Using Silhouette Sketch Pens}

Remember the stenciled mason jar vased with flower love notes that I shared earlier this week?  Well, Mother's Day is just around the corner, and I needed a card to go along with my Mom's gift.  So yesterday I set to work creating a card for my sweet Mother.  Cards mean a lot in our family.  My parents almost always tear up when they read our cards--every birthday, Mother's Day, Christmas, etc.!  And my Mother saves each and every one.

I used some Silhouette sketch pens to create this quick and easy Mother's Day card.

Say hello to my brand new CAMEO!  This beauty arrived on my doorstep just a few short weeks ago.  I am in LOVE, my friends.  I have long supported both the Cricut and the Silhouette--as equally as I possibly could.  I have seen pro's and con's to both machines.  However, this week I have really gotten to know my CAMEO.  The Silhouette Studio® Designer Edition software is beyond incredible!  I am excited to practice even more!

BUT my lil' machine came to me with a defective blade.  So I put my thinking cap on to create a project that did not require any cutting.  Instead, I wanted to practice a bit with my new sketch pens.

I was given a pack of glitter sketch pens and metallic sketch pens.  Aren't they pretty?  I learned a little trick along the way.  It appears that the sketch pens work best if the paper has not been touched.  If the paper has any oils from your fingers, the image shows up only part-way.

The rest was simple!  I inserted the sketch pen into the blade holder, designed the card and image in the software, and it came out beautifully!  This image is butterfly_floral_lace_square_C00500_19210.

I just had to use the old-fashioned method of doing the actual cutting out of the card.  (Can you believe I actually had to use scissors?!  Sheesh!  The Silhouette just makes me lazy.)

One of my Mother's favorite songs is "I Often Go Walking", and I wanted to use one of the lyrics for her card.  My Mom loves flowers.  She could spend all day long in her garden.  Everything about flowers makes me think of my Mother, so this lyric was just perfect.  I used the black sketch pen to sketch the tag and the words on burgundy cardstock.

Stenciled Mason Jar Vase {For Mother’s Day!}

I love Mother's Day.  Being a mother is the most important part of who I am!  I owe so much to my incredible Mother...  She taught me everything I know.

I was thrilled to participate in Plaid's Mother's Day Campaign.  They sent me a whole box full of crafting goodies to create a beautiful and meaningful gift for my Mamacita!  Here is what I came up with:

I created this stenciled mason jar vase with burlap and bakers twine!  Each flower has a very special meaning because each one represents a member of our family.  (More on that later!)

I love daisies.  The name of my blog is no accident.  Daisies equal happiness for me!  I thought these would be the perfect way to express our appreciation for my Mom, a true flower enthusiast!

It was like Christmas morning when I ripped open this package of amazing supplies from Plaid's Martha Stewart's craft line.  Talk about creative inspiration in a box!  There was acrylic paint, glitter, all sorts of stencils, a heating tool, a spray painting kit, every kind of brush I could imagine, a sweet tote bag, and all sorts of stenciling accessories packed inside.

I even created a "haul video" showing the entire crafting stash as I opened the box.

** For the record, I set up the tripod and taped myself while mr. oopsey was out of town.  I felt a bit awkward!  I'm still new to vlogging, but if you want a tiny sneak peek of the new house, maybe focus on the background instead of me!  Ha!

For this particular project, I wanted to try out the spray painting kit.  Hello!  Turning acrylic paint into spray paint just sounds fun.  So I gave it a shot! This was shockingly easy!

I carefully followed the directions on the sprayer kit to mix the correct proportions of the gloss spray medium with acrylic paint.  Then I simply twisted the sprayer onto the bottle.  Easy, right?

File Organization {Using a Cardboard Box}

I love when I create a project that solves a real legitimate problem.  I love pretty eye-candy projects, too.  But I feel so useful when I can create something that solves a problem around the house.  The ideas really flow for me that way.

Yesterday, mr. oopsey daisy needed some help organizing his office.  (Yes, he has an office and I have a craft room.  We are so lucky!!)  Organization is a tricky issue in our house.  I love organization.  And so does mr. oopsey daisy.  But no matter how I try to help his organization, he simply doesn't put things away.  So we are always re-organizing!

Yesterday, I spontaneously created this file organization system using an old cardboard box and a magazine file.  Halfway through the project, I realized I should be taking pictures to share this little solution-to-our-problem with you!

THE PROBLEM:  THE CLUTTER

When I told the mister that I would be taking pictures of his clutter, he hurried to organize his papers into neat piles.  Sadly, it is not usually this neat.  He doesn't want to put away his most important papers, so he just leaves them out on top of the desk.  And then those important receipts or notes written on tiny business cards somehow get lost in those piles!  I really wanted his desk surface clean, so we worked on a solution to the organization problem!

We needed somewhere to stow away all of those important current papers and action items.  So I started out with this magazine file that we already had around the house.  To prevent those important little papers from getting lost, I knew that we needed to create some dividers.

Next, I raided the ever-growing pile of boxes.  We have no furniture in our entry yet so we have been creating towers of cardboard boxes instead!  So I snagged one of the boxes and used my exacto knife to cut out 5 cardboard dividers.

I had to open up a few boxes, but I found my scrapbook paper in the stash!  What a happy sight. I love scrapbook paper!

Chocolate Buttercream Frosting

Hello!  I hope you enjoyed a fabulous weekend!  Let's start our week off with something yummy!

It took a solid week to set up my new kitchen.  Crazy, right?!  I am so indecisive. Deciding where everything belongs is like a giant game of chess.  But settling into a brand new kitchen is exciting!  I have been looking forward to cooking and baking lately.  I hope this newness doesn't wear off for a while!

I really needed a new treat to munch on during all of the unpacking...

These scrumptious rainbow cupcakes with chocolate buttercream frosting were my very first homemade creations in the new kitchen.  Oh YUM!

You might remember our Colorado Bloggers' Spring Soiree a few weeks ago.  I whipped up 5 flavors of delicious homemade cupcakes and frosting.  I saw a yummy recipe for chocolate buttercream frosting at Joy the Baker.  I adapted it a bit to make it my own with a couple of secret ingredients!

But let's begin with the actual cupcakes, shall we?

We decided to make rainbow cupcakes.  Little Man loves rainbow cake (although we call this "jellybean cake"). He had so much fun helping mix these up and seeing all of the colors!

We mixed up a vanilla cupcake mix, divided the batter into 6 bowls and used food coloring to dye each bowl a different color!  We used all of the colors of the rainbow:  Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple.  Then we dropped a small bit of each color into every muffin cup and baked them according to the directions.

Sunday’s Snippets: Easter Sunday

Hello friends!  I hope you are having a fabulous weekend!  For me, Sundays are all about family and faith.  So on Sundays, I take a break from my usual creative routine to share snippets of our regular life!

I love Easter!

But this Easter was just a wee bit hectic for our little family.  We had just moved into our new home a few days before.  We were all still swimming in boxes.  Somehow on Easter Eve I found the box filled with Easter eggs (I was on a wash-everything craze, got a little carried away, and even sanitized every single egg!), so we got to work stuffing them and creating a little Easter basket.

See all of those boxes?  I had been busy!  Little Man couldn't wait to run downstairs what the Easter Bunny had left for him on Easter morning!!

We clean up pretty good considering we were still missing half of our toiletries and wardrobes!  We came home from Church to play in our brand new back yard!

Little Man and his cousins had a pretty serious egg hunt!  They would collect eggs, dump them into a larger basket, and then go back to reload for more!  I think at one point I may have seen some elbows thrown.  They took it seriously!

This is one of my favorite Easter Sundays in a very long time.  What a relaxing and beautiful day!  My parents' back yard is in full bloom.  Springtime is such a hopeful time!

We ended a fabulous day with my Mom's amazing Easter bunny cake.  Isn't she amazing?!  So thanks, Mom and Dad, for a fun-filled Easter party with all of the festivities!

I hope you had a very happy Easter too!

"See" you tomorrow!
