A is for Apples {Massive Packet!}

It's Mommy School time!

Hip hip hooray!!

Download available at the end of this post.

I am thrilled to be finished with this massive Mommy School unit!  And now I can't wait to get started with all kinds of Apple fun here at home!  Right now is the perfect time to study apples.  Just this week, we are canning our own fresh applesauce!

You may remember that A is for Apples was one of my very first Mommy School units.  However, I didn't create all of my ideas in packet format.  Because it is one of my all-time favorite units, I wanted to re-visit it again this year!  My format for Mommy School has kind of evolved, so I wanted to organize it a little better this year.

Here is a little peek at what's inside:

Letter of the Week:  A

Number of the Week:  1

(I am only working on numbers 1-10 right now, so we are starting back over at 1 with this packet!)

Color of the Week:  Red

Song of the Week:  Apples and Bananas

Theme of the Week:  Apples

And of course there are many more fun ideas that I can't wait to do with Little Man including games, literacy activities, math, science, flannel board stories, arts/crafts, and recipes!

And here are a couple of sneak previews...

There are TONS of yummy apple recipes!  My mouth is watering just thinking about it!  I used this Apple Pickin' Kit to create these templates.

I am super excited about these apple seed counting cards!  You can cover the "seeds" with chocolate chips and count them as you go!

There are 3 letter-writing practice and coloring sheets.

I added several of my favorite apple poems!

I love this idea too... stamping fingerprints on the different apple trees to make a book!

I am forever grateful to DJ Inkers and A-Manda Creations for allowing me to partner with them on this packet!!  Yes, that's right... I am excited to announce that A-Manda Creations has partnered with me on creating on my Mommy School packets!  Be sure to check out both of these incredible designers!

  16. I printed this packet last night and just wanted you to know that I love the format. As I was going through the pages, I was so thankful for the way you set up the printables – a page of instructions with the printables following. This is perfect for my activity notebook that I’m creating to use for years to come. I so love that I don’t have to copy, re-copy, and manipulate things! Your hard work is so appreciated!!!

  17. Ok, you are incredible! I hope to be as creative as you someday!

Hello! For some reason I can’t download this packet or the leaves one…is it unavailable now?

By the way, I love love LOVE the Thanksgiving and Halloween packets! We are traveling across the country next month and I am so glad I can use those to entertain my 3 kids!!!

    • Alison@Oopsey Daisy says:

Hi Sarah! All packets are in working order! It seems to be settings on individual computers–spyware, download settings, internet speed, etc. that give some people downloading issues. Good luck!

  21. Thank you! Your packets are amazing and such a time saver. I plan on teaching “mommy school” starting next week and will be working on the A is for Apples unit. You compliled so many fantastic ideas and I am so grateful to you for all your hard work and time spent on making this available. I wanted to let you know I included your link in my post today sharing information about teaching tots. I shared some information (i.e. types of acitivites but no downloads) found in the packets but linked everyone to your website for downloading. I hope this is okay :) Feel free to check it out at http://ktdesigns-katania.blogspot.com/2011/10/tot-school-planning.html. Thank you again!

  22. OOPS! I forgot to ask you how you organize your packets. Do you store them on your computer and just print them as you need them, or in a binder or a file folder? Also do you use a lesson plan to plan each day or just pick and choose. Thanks so much!

  23. Aleksandra says:

Found it through pinterest and fall in love. Cannot way to use with my boy. Thank You. Going explore more

  24. First of all, thank you so much for this amazing packet!

Second, how old is your son now (as you are using this packet with him)? My son is 21 months old and is very excited about learning his letters. He mastered all of his colors by 15 months, just in passing (simply pointing out colors of things in every day conversation). He knows a few of his letters and I’m looking for fun ways to learn others. I don’t expect him to really understand letter-sound relationships yet, but recognition is exciting. Okay, all that to say, I’m wondering if this is age appropriate at all (obviously I can adapt some stuff and I don’t have to use it all), but I have such a hard time figuring out what he’s capable of at this point in his life (never expected him to learn his colors so fast and easily). Thank you so much for both any advice you can give and for the awesome packet.

  25. I love these packets! I am so glad that I found this helpful website. Thank you for all of your hard work!

  26. THANK YOU so much for all the time you put into these packets and for being generous enough to share them!!! It is a very kind thing for you to share these and make sure all little ones get to learn and benefit from your time, love and creativity. I am currently on maternity leave with my second son and have my older one in a small school were he goes from 9-12. I try to incorporate soem of your activities daily. Do you teach your children at home? How long do you generaly work on a letter?
    THANK YOU AGAIN :)

  27. Thank you so much for sharing your talents. All your hard work is very much appreciated. I am so glad there are people like you out there!!! These packets are amazing :)

  28. I actually found your site through Pinterest! I am super excited about it– it’s just what I’ve been looking for! Thank you for all your time, energy, and effort into creating all these amazing lessons!!! You rock!!! : ) I know my daughter is going to love our very own “Mommy School”!

  29. You are amazingly awesome! Thank you for this. Just found you via Pinterest,

  30. I’m trying to download “A” packet and I keep getting a message that the link is no longer available is there any way I can still get it?

    • Alison@Oopsey Daisy says:

      Hi Angela!

This packet is still working and available for download! I just tested it, and it’s in perfect working order. I suggest reading the “Download help” section under the Mommy School tab if you continue to have issues.

I hope this helps! I would love to hear about your experience with Mommy School! Good luck!

  31. Thanks so much for sharing your awesome teaching tools!! I actually found about this on pinterest!! I can’t wait to start using this with my daughter!! She loves playing “school” and I know she will love it!! You are awesome!!!

  32. Grace's Mom says:

I just wanted to write you a quick note and tell you what a lifesaver your mommy school packets are! I have been working with my 3 year old daughter for weeks on her letters, and she is just not grasping them. I have determined that she is not a visual learner and she needs a more tactile way to learn her letters, and I have found my saving grace (no pun intended, since my daughter’s name is Grace!) in your mommy school packets! Clearly you have many mothers who appreciate your hard work on these packets – I just wanted you to really know that the time you took to put these together is making a difference for my little learner! Thank you.

  33. Lindsey says:

Allison – I love your Mommy School program and Ideas! THANK YOU so much for putting it out there and encouraging all of us moms to be teachers in the home! I too was a teacher for 3 years before my little came. I taught elementary music! SO when it comes to making sure my son is well rounded musically I’ve got that covered, but I was unsure how to structure learning time for the general education. Your ideas or collaboration of ideas and your week’s plan that you included on your D is for Dogs page has really helped me get the process started. Thanks again! Oh, and I’m pinning some of your stuff on Pinterest to share with my other stay at home mommy friends! I hope that’s ok! :-)

  34. I read the download help already, but I was wondering if you have to join 4share in order to download. No matter what I click it says I to join or sign in. Just wondering. Thank you!

    • Please follow the directions in the download help. YOu have to click the blue “download now” box… wait 90 seconds, and then go back and click the link after waiting. You do NOT have to join 4shared at all. I hope this helps!

    • I am having the same issue Lorae. Even after following Alison’s directions, waiting the appropriate amount of time, etc. there isn’t a link that appears after clicking download now and waiting. It makes you sign in/create an account.

      • Hey Heather, it appears that 4Shared has changed its terms of use and requires you to create an account now. Sorry about that! This is new. Please understand that it’s very difficult finding a FREE (that stays free!) download service. I have attempted 3 services now! At this point, I don’t have a lot of options for sharing free (large) downloads.

      • Alright! I just added an additional download link on Scribd if you see it above :) I hope that helps!

        • Thanks Alison. I certainly understand and appreciate your work and thus far being able to share your efforts for free with others. The scribd link says that the document is private.

  35. Alison, this packet is AMAZING! I am trying to download for my two-year-old but it seems that you HAVE to be a member of Facebook. Is that correct? I must be the last person on earth that doens’t Facebook and I don’t have plans to join. Is there another way to download the content?

    • Hi Monica. You definitely do NOT have to be a member of Facebook to download these packets… they have NOTHING to do with FB! :) There is a link through the 4shared File Sharing service (you will just need to enter your e-mail to log in.) OR you can download through Scribd (again, you need some type of log in, but FB is not necessary.) I hope that helps!

  36. Hi! I just wanted to say THANK YOU!!!! I left teaching 7th graders to become a stay at home mom/photographer and though the transition would be easy – WRONG! Now that my oldest is 2 1/2, I really wanted to teach him but really struggled with finding things to do, how to teach him, etc and just became so overwhelmed I gave up. Behavior went down the tubes, he was really yearning to learn something and I was failing at my job. We’ve been doing this unit together for the past week and we’re all in love with it! He adores the activities, I enjoy lesson planning and teaching again and now that we have a more structured schedule, his behavior has improved. You’re a miracle worker – THANKS!!!

  37. This is such a cute unit! Thank you!! I just stumbled upon your website and REALLY love it. I’m sure I’ll be back again. Thanks again!

  38. You have SAVED me from my SAHM slump! Thank you thank you thank you! I’ve recently become a SAHM (in February) to my just now three year old son. I’ve had the best of intentions with creating lists/schedules/itinerary for crafts, play dates, library trips and have made my own “learning boards” for ABC’s and 123’s, etc. Recently, however, it seems to have become slightly monotonous and this is EXACTLY what we’ve been looking for! I cannot wait to get started on this. I know my little guy and I are going to have so much fun and benefit greatly from this. Thanks so much for sharing the fruits of your labor!

  39. These are so cute. Thanks for your generosity!

  40. I’m participating in a little preschool co-op, and it was my turn to teach on Friday. I used your ideas for most of my planning. Thank you, thank you, thank you! It made planning a cinch! I’m sure I will be coming back again and again as the year progresses!
