Spider Oreo Snacks

Back to School time really motivated me to start up Mommy School again!

We took the summer off, but once I saw the school buses around our neighborhood, I was ready!  For the last couple of weeks, we have been loving our "I is for Insects" unit.  This week I decided to surprise Little Man with a "spider snack" after his nap.

He loves Oreo cookies.  He honestly prefers Oreos over my homemade cookies.  Tragic, huh?  I am still working on that... Anyway, I knew he would fall in love with these little spiders, and I was right!  This was probably my 'Coolest Mom' moment of the week.  We sat down and enjoyed Oreo spiders with milk!

Although I had hoped to dip these spiders in chocolate, I realized only had vanilla candy wafers on hand.  So this was a great time to teach Little Man about white albino spiders!!

These were SUPER easy to make...

I started out with a bowl of vanilla candy wafers.

I melted them for just 30 seconds in the microwave and mixed them up well.

We always have Double Stuff Oreos on hand at our house!  Seriously. We have at least 2 packages at all times.  It's like our food storage.

I wedged a pretzel stick inside the Oreo and dipped it in the candy.  I resisted the urge to eat it up right then and let it cool on wax paper.  (You could also speed up the process by sticking them in the refrigerator!)

I dipped 4 pretzel sticks (broken in half) in the candy wafers too, and wedged them in each side for the spider's legs.  I added mini chocolate chip eyes and a sour straw mouth before they set up, too.

We used M&M's for these eyes.

And my little bumblebee gobbled up his spider! In fact, he begged for another one!

So we made a couple more.  They were YUMMY!

If you're searching for a healthier option, you could try out Ritz crackers and peanut butter!

Enjoy your weekend, my friends!

Wednesday’s Wowzers: Almost 30!

Happy Wednesday, my friends!

Time is flying.  I mean it.

I have a little confession to make.  I am about to turn 30.  Yes the big 3-0.  I will probably never admit my age ever again.  Isn't it funny how we have these expectations about where we'll be in our lives by the time age 30 comes rolling around?!  And although I have accomplished a lot in almost-30 years, I feel like I'm behind!  Can't I have another 5 years before turning 30 and reaching this milestone?!

We still need to buy a house.   I should have more than 1 kid by now.  I should have a cute and organized craft room.  🙂

Here is what I'm loving this week...

Have you seen Nest of Posies' incredible felt flower wreath yet?  Oh my!!  I am in love with everything about this.  What a smart idea to frame a wreath.  And those butterflies... gorgeous!

I am loving this gorgeous playroom from Libbie Grove Design.  Can you imagine having an entire chalkboard wall?!  Love.

I am admiring all of the stenciled projects out there.  But these are the first stenciled curtains I've seen!  Go check out The Stories of A to Z... Beth is so dang smart!

I got to meet the lovely Angela from Better Together just last week. (Yay for Colorado bloggers!) I checked out her fun blog, and I found this adorable mini comfy skirt.  I love that great big bow!

I've seen a lot of  adorable diaper cakes... but this baby basket cake and bunting really does take the cake!  2 Little Hooligans did a fantastic job!

Mommy School fans:  Check out this candy corn game.  It's printable, too!  Stop by The Princess and the Tot to find out more.  Caaaute!  I know we'll be using this soon.

Seriously, seriously cute.  And festive.  And glittery.  What's not to love here?!  Check out the Chapman Place for the tut on these glittery Trick or Treat pillows.

I love love love felt!  So this felt Halloween countdown just makes me happy!  Thanks, Crafting Chicks, for more inspiration!  These ladies are so talented!

What's been inspiring you this week?

Make Your Own Baggies {I Can Teach My Child}

Jenae is a former first grade teacher turned stay-at-home Mama to two precious (and wild and crazy) little boys. She loves spending time with her family and sharing fun and educational ideas with other parents and caregivers on her blog I Can Teach My Child!

Baggies are an inevitable part of life with children. Whether you are packing a school lunch or throwing Cheerios in a diaper bag, baggies are a must for every parent.
Instead of using disposable baggies, though, try making your own! It's super easy and takes about 20 minutes tops! Plus, one benefit of these baggies is that they are insulated!
Here's what you'll need:
A picnic tablecloth (the kind with the felt on the back),
Sew-on velcro (I used 1/2 inch...I think),
Pins, a sewing machine, and thread!
Optional: Rotary cutter and mat.
1. Cut a section from your very large smaller than 16x9 inches.
It will be easier to work with if you start off with a small piece.

What a fun giveaway!! Thank you soooo much for putting it together!! Fall is by all means my favorite season. I love football, Halloween, pumpkins, soups and ciders, the cooler weather, jumping in the leaves and playing outside with the kiddos and fun family days. I’m also loving that my sweet baby girl is experiencing her first fall (she’ll be one in November) and I’m already planning all the fun things she and I, along with my 6 year old son, are going to be doing together. I love them so!! I am definitely in need of some festive fall fun stuff to jazz up the house…soooo crossing my fingers!! Thanks for the chance! I’m going to spread the news. :)

Roll A Jack-O-Lantern {Creative Carousel}

I hope you've been enjoying The Creative Carousel this week!

Fall has really inspired me!  As the temperatures have dropped just a few degrees, I have hit a huge surge of creativity.  I am knee-deep in several fall projects!  Today I decided to share the project that best defines me.

No matter how hard I try to make something just for me--I am always so much more motivated to make a project that the whole family (specifically Little Man!) can enjoy!  So once again, the Mom AND the Teacher in me have joined forces on this little project.

Let me introduce you to our brand spankin' new Roll A Jack-O-Lantern game!

And guess what--I only spent $1 on this project. {Insert husband's congratulations here!}

PLUS there are some downloads at the end of this post to help you create your own game at home.

This game is versatile.  You can adapt it however you would like for your own family!

The idea of the game is to build a jack-o-lantern, with the help of the dice!

I started out with a $1 burner cover from the Dollar Tree.  Yes, there was a rooster on it.  But most importantly, it was magnetic!

I quickly covered that rooster with some orange scrapbook paper.  I added a layer of protective mod podge over the top (because it will be getting plenty of use!), and distressed the edges a bit, too.

Next, I got to work creating the jack-o-lantern pieces.  You will need....

At least 2 eyes (I made 6!)

At least 1 nose

At least 1 mouth

At least 2 teeth

Wednesday’s Wowzers: Yes, it’s really Thursday

Fall is now in full swing!

I love it!  I am so incredibly inspired by everything around me!   And let's be honest--I have been almost living in the bathroom for the past week or so.  We began potty training last weekend, so I feel like we run to the bathroom about 42 times a day.  Okay, that's a bit of an exaggeration.   I am proud to say that after 2 rough days, Little Man has got it!  At least during the day.   I'm too chicken to even attempt night-time right now.  We'll get there! 🙂

So with that huge feat hopefully almost-accomplished (knock on wood!), I'm ready to tackle some fall projects!  Here are a few inspiring projects...

I am in LOVE with this adorable Halloween polk-a-dot cake.  My friend Anj at Snowy Bliss never ceases to amaze me!! You have to see how she made this!

{Swoon.} Speaking of polk-a-dots... This Polka-Dotted Ruffled Top is too cute!  I can hardly believe it's handmade!  Made It On Monday has the full tut!

You may know I have a pillow obsession. I love these yo-yo pillows from At Second Street.

Delicious Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins

WARNING:  Do not read this post if you are hungry!

It really didn't take me long at all to bust out the pumpkin this year.  You may remember how last year (at least where we lived) there was a pumpkin shortage!  By the time I finally found canned pumpkin in the stores, I stocked up big time.  I'm simply a sucker for all things pumpkin.

So on September 1st, I declared it the season of pumpkin and started a pumpkin-baking marathon!  In my house, I'm really the only person who eats sweets.  (Okay, sometimes Little Man eats a few bites, but his little appetite doesn't count for much!)  Often I crave sweets and make batches of something yummy.  Then altogether too soon, I get a little tired of the yummy things I bake.

Not these muffins.

This recipe makes a whopping 2 1/2-3 dozen.  But I am enjoying each and every morsel--and still eating them 3 times a day!  In all the food marriages in all the world, I think pumpkin and chocolate could surely have the most enduring love of all.

Pumpkin Muffins

3 1/3 c. flour

2 1/4 c. sugar

2 tsp. baking soda

1 tsp. cinnamon

1 tsp. salt

2 c. pumpkin

4 eggs

1 c. oil (May also substitute 1 c. applesauce instead!)

2/3 c. water

1 tsp. vanilla

1 c. chocolate chips (I'm not gonna lie.  I usually add many more!)

Mix together first 5 ingredients.  Make a well and add liquid ingredients.  Mix in chocolate chips.  Spoon into muffin tins.  Bake at 350 for 15 minutes.  Makes about 2 1/2-3 dozen muffins.

* If you're in the mood for pumpkin bread, this make a yummy pumpkin bread too!!

If you don't want to copy down the recipe...

Take it from me--these are delish!!  You know you want some!!

And in case you're wondering what happened to Wednesday's Wowzers, this recipe is SO yummy, I felt it necessary to interrupt my regular schedule just to share it with you!

Have a happy day!

Update an Old Plate {The V Spot}

Today's guest is one talented gal!  Viv from The V Spot is full of frugal and ingenious tricks for the home!  You definitely need to check our her blog!
Hello Oopsey Daisy Readers! I am very happy to be here!
Today I'm going to show you a simple trick to update old plates and platters. While they aren't food safe, they are great for decorating.
My finished platter looks like this...

It wasn't always this way.

1. Take an ugly plate or platter with a cool shape. In this case, a large Williams Sonoma platter, circa 1997 that I bought at a thrift store for $1.

2. Dig out some 3D scribble (or puff) paint that you have in your craft supplies. (You know you have some... No? OK, then you can pick some up at any craft store for a couple of bucks.) It does not matter what color you choose since you'll be spray painting it anyway.

3. Start squeezing on your design. Do whatever you like. I'm no artist, so I prefer random, squiggly designs. (It hides the fact that I'm no artist.)

4. Let the puff paint dry completely, then take it to an area where you can spray paint it.
